Welcome to Seattle Sweats! We are Justine and Matt, your Seattle friends who love everything active, outdoors, and sweaty. This website is our collaborative documentation of adventures and way of connecting with friends who share our passion for fitness and getting outside. In August 2016 we moved to Seattle and loved the close juxtaposition of an urban city and outdoors-oriented culture. Seattle has become our home and stepping stone to some of the most beautiful hikes, skiing, and climbing in the world.
We married in May 2013 and afterward spent three years in Okinawa, Japan working as Navy dentists serving the Marines and their families. From surfing on Bondi Beach to climbing Mt. Fuji, it was a time when we were able to travel and meet people from all over the world. Our thirst for adventure has yet to be quenched.
Meet Justine
Justine grew up in the Montana and is a bit of a mountain snob. Just ask Matt. She started skiing at the tender age of four and will race you down any slope that’s steep and flat. Matt will tell you, he can’t keep up. Though she has been running all her life, since she met Matt she has completed the Twin Cities Marathon, Marine Corps Marathon, and Boston Marathon as well as half marathons. She looks forward to the many half marathons, trail runs, and hikes in the Seattle area. Besides getting sweaty, she enjoys cooking, photography, Seattle life, and hanging out with her best friend Matt. She runs the tech portion of Seattle Sweats but is a bit of a free spirit, constantly coming up with ideas for new adventures.
Meet Matt
Matt is a Minnesota native and your go-to triathlon and marathon guru. He has completed seven Ironman triathlons and ten marathons. Yeah, that’s a lot of miles, and he’s not about to be done. His goals include running all of the world major marathons (so far Boston and Berlin) and qualifying for the Kona Ironman Championship. If you want to geek out about electronic shifting or your hydration plan he would love to hear from you. Matt is a bit of a powder hound in the winter and can sniff out any untracked pow in the trees. Just know, he’s friendly but there are no friends on a pow day. Introduced to climbing in high school, Matt looks forward to the many bouldering and climbing opportunities in the PNW and is showing Justine the ropes. He runs the social media for Seattle Sweats and makes our expeditions organized, safe, and a whole lot of fun.
Thanks for stopping by our website, we hope you will find Seattle Sweats inspiring for a new adventure. We love to hear from our friends and fellow sweat lovers, please email us at seattlesweats@gmail.com. Come rain, come shine, come sweat!
